13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim was praised by fans of the genre for its unique story, mixing the stories of thirteen playable characters together in a complex story filled with many of the science fiction genre’s most popular tropes ranging from mechas to time travel. Like many similarly well-received games of its time like Persona 5, 13 Sentinels has long been a popular request by fans to make a transition to the Switch. Now that it has officially come to the portable console, fans are noticing a cute Easter egg with the game’s physical version.

13 Sentinels’ official Switch release on Tuesday came with a fun homage to one of the game’s supporting characters packed into the physical versions of the game. Removing the game card from the case for 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim’s physical version reveals the image of a black-and-white cat nicknamed “Fluffy” who appears multiple times throughout the game across several characters’ stories. With the inside of the shell being completely white and the image being hidden underneath the game card slot, it can be easy to miss for fans who aren’t keeping an eye out for it.
While 13 Sentinels did not see the kind of overwhelming success as other Atlus franchises like Shin Megami Tensei and Persona, the game saw rave reviews from multiple publications and nominations for multiple awards both in Japan following its initial 2019 release and worldwide in 2020. 13 Sentinels was nominated for “Best Narrative” at the 2020 Game Awards and won “Best Scenario” and “Best Adventure Game” and was nominated for “Game of the Year” at Japan’s Famitsu Dengeki Game Awards in 2019.
13 Sentinels’ Switch release comes as both publisher Atlus and developer Vanillaware both have major projects on the horizon for this year and beyond. Vanillaware announced GrimGrimoire OnceMore earlier today as a remaster of the cult classic PS2 title, and Shin Megami Tensei spinoff game Soul Hackers 2 is expected to release from Atlus later this year. 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim’s Switch version brings the widely acclaimed RPG to a whole new market and gives both long-time fans and new ones a chance to experience the game’s unique story on the go.
